Season Update

Well - as ever the best laid plans. It's been over 5 weeks since I posted bt seeing my link of Smiffys blog I felt guilty enough to come back here and add a few words.

We're three games into the new season and the win column is still registering a big fat zero. Two draws (which we should have won) and a defeat at Grantham yesterday leave us with a visit from the meat substitues on Monday to get back on track.

The season started in rain (nothing new for this Summer then) with a 2-2 draw against Colwyn Bay.

Then on Tuesday by all accounts it was a cold night at Stocksbridge for a 1-1 draw (ex-Nailer Steve 'Kendo' Kennedy was sent off near then end for his part in a 21 man brawl. Anthony Wilson also saw red for Belper.

The yesterday we baked in 27 degrees at Grantham Town in a 2-3 defeat.

Best thing about yesterday was seeing Ross Hannah warming up. Had a chat with him and he conformed he has resigned for Belper and is available on Saturday for the FA Cup preliminary Round game against Stourport Swifts at the Meadow.

Since I last posted I have exchaged the 1Ds mk I for a 2nd 1D mk II (at a cost of £200).

I'm now happy that I have two camers that hold two cards (for backup purposes and extra capacity). I decided on this course after hearing of a work colleagues wedding disaster when the photographer returned after the meal saying he could not get the photos off the carrd and could they redo them. With four weddings booked for next year I don't want to be in that position - EVER!

One other purchase is a universal bracket holder from Jessops to allow me to use my 550ex as a studio light through an umbrella. First attempts were in a dark garage hassleing the family cat. I've obvioulsy not got it right but it's a vast improvement on direct flash (or even bounced flash). The two catchlights come from the flash and the flurescent tube as she looked up at the strange wide object that kept flashing at her. The background is a little distracting too but as I say it was all very thrown together' I'll trygetting Sally to pose for a proper effort over the weekend sometime.

Another experiment I did was a 'multiple' shot of my mate Paul at work in the maxillofacial laboratory at work. I got him to pose at different workspaces and then joimed them together in Photoshop - erasing the layer to reveal him. Obviously not explaining this too well so I'll just post the picture in so you can see what I mean:

Hopefully now you see what I mean. It involves some time consuming 'fiddling' but is well worth it I think.

Finally for this blog I went on a walk through the Peak district between carsington and Brassington on Friday. Took the G5 out for convenience rather than one of the 1D's (note the apostrophe). Set off at 08:30 form the Sheepwash Car Park. Got back about 1pm having walked a total of 5 miles - shows how much time was spent stood around taking photographs.

Pictures from that day can be seen here:

May need to copy and paste the link as the @ sign seems to stop it working at times.

Keep snapping !
